Designing Meaningful Spaces

Welcome to athe.na architecture, an architectural studio founded in 2024. The studio focuses on creating innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective designs tailored to each client’s needs. With a passion for architecture and attention to detail, I approach every project with the goal of delivering functional and aesthetically inspiring spaces that seamlessly integrate with their surroundings.

My priority is finding smart solutions that combine quality and affordability without compromising on beauty or functionality. Whether residential, commercial, or public, I ensure that every space is built to last and meets the needs of its users, while respecting and enhancing the environment in which it is placed. Being a solo practitioner allows me to maintain a hands-on approach, providing direct and focused attention to every project from concept to completion. I believe in the power of collaboration and open communication, working closely with clients to bring their vision to life.

SERVICES

Architectural Design lies in its ability to merge art, science, and the human factor to create meaningful spaces. The design approach emphasizes a balance between creativity, functionality, and efficiency, ensuring that each project is both cost-effective and time-efficient.
The process begins with an open and in-depth discussion with my clients to fully understand their needs. Throughout all stages of the design, ideas are presented through multiple drawings and high-quality 3D photorealistic renderings. These visual tools not only serve as final deliverables but also play a crucial role in shaping each project with precision and consistency.

The Interior Design service focuses on creating spaces that are adaptable to the unique needs and desires of the people who inhabit them. By applying the same design tools as in architectural design—drawings and 3D photorealistic renderings-interior design aims to create personalized, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environments that enhance the quality of life for clients. The result is spaces that feel both intimate and timeless. By carefully selecting materials, colors, and furnishings, harmonious interiors are created that are not only beautiful but also comfortable and inviting.

The Detailed Design Study includes construction drawings, detailed structural and architectural elements, and a bill of quantities for the project. This phase is crucial for ensuring accurate and efficient project execution, as it provides contractors and craftsmen with all the necessary construction information. A well-prepared implementation study enhances quality, precision, and efficiency while minimizing potential errors and delays. It also facilitates smooth collaboration among all stakeholders, ensuring the successful achievement of the desired outcome.

Obtaining a Building Permit from the municipal planning authority is a crucial step for the legal execution of any construction project. The process involves gathering the required documents, preparing architectural plans, conducting structural and mechanical studies, compiling and submitting the application file, and overseeing the approval process until the permit is issued. The duration can range from several weeks to months, depending on the project’s complexity and the municipal authority’s processing speed. Proper preparation of the application file, along with close cooperation with the relevant authorities, is essential for ensuring a smooth and timely permit issuance.

Construction Management and Supervision ensure the seamless execution of a project from inception to completion. This service involves overseeing all aspects of the building process, ensuring compliance with approved designs, technical specifications, and project timelines. Responsibilities include coordinating contractors, monitoring progress, managing resources, and ensuring adherence to building regulations and quality standards. Regular site inspections, proactive problem-solving, and effective communication between all stakeholders help prevent delays, control costs, and maintain high construction quality.

Architect : Athina Athanasiou

I was born in 1996 and pursued my studies at the National Technical University of Athens, School of Architecture, from 2014 to 2019. I have been a registered member of the Technical Chamber of Greece since 2020.

Over the years, I have gained professional experience working in various architectural offices in Athens, starting as a trainee in 2016 and later as a licensed Architect-Engineer in 2020. Throughout this time, I have contributed as a designer and project manager to numerous small and medium-scale projects.

I also had the opportunity to collaborate with reliable colleagues on architectural competitions, earning the 2nd prize in the Architectural Ideas Competition for the Redevelopment of the Coastal Front in the ‘Kalamia’ Area of Corinth and the 3rd prize in the Architectural Ideas Competition for Kolonaki Square.

In 2024, I founded ath.ena architecture, where I am passionate about working with clients to help turn their dreams into reality.

In architecture, I am particularly interested in issues of adaptation and scale. Architecture, as a discipline, involves the construction of buildings and the formation of spaces that aim to serve human needs. I believe that a building or a space should be able to change and adapt to the evolving needs of its users, and its impact on the environment should not be restrictive, but should offer something both functional and aesthetic throughout its lifespan. The design process must take scale into account in every project, ensuring that the daily activities, as well as the social and emotional needs of the users, are met, allowing them to feel comfortable and at ease.

These thoughts were reflected in my academic lecture and thesis work at the National Technical University of Athens, Un_Box the Nomad: System of ephemeral housing units along the z-axis, developed in collaboration with my fellow student and friend, Melina Tsangareli. Our design proposal concerns a disassemblable and transportable construction system with the minimum possible footprint and the lowest possible cost, intended to accommodate modern nomads resulting from a constantly changing society, individuals who lack a stable base and work remotely via the internet.
