The project concerns the renovation of a 1960s penthouse apartment in the Gkyzi neighborhood. The primary objective was to enhance the apartment’s energy efficiency and functionality while preserving its warm and nostalgic character.
The apartment’s southern façade accommodates the main living areas, while at the back, there are two bedrooms and the bathroom. The spatial layout was largely preserved, as it sufficiently served the needs of the residence, with only minor modifications made to the kitchen. These adjustments reinforced its central position within the apartment and improved its connection to the living areas. The southern balcony extends the interior into an open-air urban room, offering views of Pοikilo Mountain and the peak of Lycabettus Hill.
The existing oak flooring in the living areas and bedrooms was preserved and restored. In the bathroom and kitchen, large-format tiles in a refined gray hue were selected, and in the hallway, tiles featuring a retro design in neutral tones were installed. On the balconies, the traditional bluish-green terrazzo was maintained and carefully restored.
White dominates the vertical surfaces, including the window frames and doors, creating a sense of brightness and cohesion. The ceilings in the main rooms were painted in different pastel shades, carefully chosen to reflect the users’ perception of each space’s function and contribute to a friendly, playful atmosphere.
In the kitchen, fixed cabinetry in green and white tones was paired with oak wood countertops, while in the bathroom, exposed marine plywood cabinets, combined with shower tiles in an egg yolk yellow hue add warmth to the space.
The interior is furnished primarily with white elements, with the exception of the dining table and office unit—both aligned with the oak horizontal surfaces concept—and the sofa, which serves as a focal point, adding a dynamic color contrast to the space.
